Overview
MAI ("My Action Items") is a personal task management application. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data MAI accesses, how it is used, and how you can control it.
Data We Collect
MAI stores all task data locally on your device. When you connect a Google account, MAI may access the following based on features you enable:
- Google Account Email — Used to identify your account within the app.
- Google Drive — If you enable Drive sync, MAI creates and reads its own files in your Google Drive to back up and sync your task data. MAI only accesses files it creates (via the
drive.filescope) and cannot see or modify any other files in your Drive. - Google Sheets — If you enable Sheets sync, MAI reads data from a Google Sheet you specify to sync environment variables.
- Gmail — If you enable email routing, MAI reads unread emails with specific labels to create tasks from them, and marks those emails as read.
Cross-Device Sync
If you enable cross-device sync, MAI stores a hashed version of your Google account email and a last-sync timestamp in Firebase Realtime Database. This is used solely to coordinate sync between your devices. No task data is stored in Firebase.
How We Use Your Data
All data accessed by MAI is used solely to provide the features you enable. Specifically:
- Task data is stored locally and optionally synced to your own Google Drive.
- Google Sheets data is read to update environment variables you configure.
- Gmail data is read to create tasks based on your routing rules.
- Firebase data is used only to notify your other devices when a sync is available.
Data Sharing
MAI does not sell, share, or transmit your data to any third parties. Your data stays on your device and in your own Google account.
Data Storage
Task data is stored locally on your device. If you enable Google Drive sync, a copy is stored in your Google Drive. If you enable cross-device sync, a hashed email and sync timestamp are stored in Firebase. MAI does not otherwise operate any servers that store your personal data.
Your Control
You can:
- Disconnect your Google account at any time in Settings, which immediately stops all Google data access.
- Enable or disable individual features (Drive sync, Sheets sync, Gmail routing, cross-device sync) independently.
- Revoke MAI's access by visiting your Google Account permissions.
